No VHSL document yet states girls flag football's status. The agenda for the VHSL's 23 September 2026 meetings lists 'Girls flag football as an emerging sport' as a discussion item for the Policy and Programs Committee, not as a vote; we have not seen a record of the outcome. Reports conflict: a student newspaper reported in March 2026 that the VHSL had approved the sport; Loudoun County Public Schools wrote in August 2026 that it is not currently a VHSL-sponsored sport; in January 2026 the Prince William County school board made it a permanent fall sport and voted to ask the VHSL to sanction it. The Washington Commanders support school programmes in Virginia. Next VHSL Executive Committee meeting: 4 February 2027.
