Board of Control voted 15-2 on 6 May 2026 to add girls flag football, with the first season in the spring of 2027-28. The decision followed a Triennial Survey of member schools' sports offerings; the majority favoured a spring season over fall. The Board directed the Commissioner to present an implementation timeline and draft regulations at its July and September meetings. Sanctioned but not yet listed among KHSAA sports as of September 2026, consistent with the 2027-28 start.
