Board of Directors voted unanimously at its June 2026 meeting to elevate girls flag football to a fully recognised sport for 2026-27, the OHSAA's 29th. In May 2026, before full sanctioning, the OHSAA partnered with the Browns, Bengals and Pro Football Hall of Fame to conduct a state tournament event, won by Macedonia Nordonia. 162 teams competed in spring 2026, up from 20 schools three years earlier. Dates for the 2027 season and tournament were still to be determined at the time of the release.
