Checked on 2026-11-01 against UIL's association release.
The UIL has not sanctioned girls' flag football. At its 18-19 October 2026 meeting the Legislative Council approved the development of girls flag football in concept as a pilot program, with no more than two classifications, to begin no earlier than 2028-29. The UIL says it will gather information on rules and guidelines for the pilot for consideration at later Council meetings, and every rule change the Council passes also needs the approval of the Commissioner of Education before it takes effect. No UIL pilot play exists yet, so we continue to record Texas as not sanctioned. Earlier: in June 2026 the Council asked UIL staff for an implementation plan and a superintendent survey. Schools currently play in leagues run with the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, outside the UIL. Next decision: pilot rules at a later Legislative Council meeting; UIL procedure lets the Council take up new activities in June and October of odd-numbered years.
