The LHSAA's girls flag football page says its Executive Committee passed the addition of the sport in 2025, and quotes Bylaw 6.5.3: the committee may consider a new sport once 80 schools (20% of members) show interest, and any new sport must complete a two-year probationary period as a pilot programme before final adoption as a recognised sport. Reporting on the spring 2025 meeting says the committee approved a two-year pilot with 2027-28 as the year the sport becomes sanctioned. We therefore record Louisiana as a pilot until final adoption. The New Orleans Saints support the programme. The NFHS map lists Louisiana as sanctioned with a 2027 start; see the corrections log. The LHSAA's 2027 school sign-up information describes 2027 as the second spring season of the required two-year pilot, with first practice on 4 January 2027, first games the week of 15 March, playoffs from 26 April and championships on 1 May 2027; schools had to sign up by 9 October 2026.
