Principals' Committee on Athletics unanimously approved sanctioning on 17 Aug 2026, effective spring 2027, after 16 member schools petitioned under Article 15 of the RIIL Rules and Regulations. The same committee had held an earlier recommendation for further study in June 2025 and then denied it 5-11-1 on 27 Jan 2026, forming a sub-committee to set standards for sanctioning any new sport. First New England state to sanction.
