Girls Flag Football in Connecticut
Pilot Connecticut has organized play without a formal sanctioning vote.
Is girls' flag football a varsity sport in Connecticut?
Not yet as a fully sanctioned sport. The Connecticut Association of Schools / Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CAS-CIAC) recognizes organized high school play — as an emerging, pilot or association-run event — without having formally adopted girls' flag football as a sanctioned sport. Checked against CAS-CIAC's own materials on 2026-09-15.
Does Connecticut have girls' flag football?
Yes. High schools in Connecticut play girls' flag football in CAS-CIAC-recognized programs that are not yet fully sanctioned. The season is played in spring.
When is girls' flag football season in Connecticut?
Spring; state tournament mid to late May. From CAS-CIAC's own materials.
Can you play college flag football in Connecticut?
Yes. We have checked 2 varsity women's flag football programs at colleges in Connecticut: Post University (NCAA D-II), University of Bridgeport (NCAA D-II). Each is confirmed from its conference's, college's or governing body's own pages.

Checked on 2026-09-15 against CAS-CIAC's association handbook.
Girls flag football is not a CIAC-controlled sport. The 2026-27 CAS-CIAC Handbook's list of CIAC-controlled sports (section 2.7) does not include it, and the CAS constitution limits the CIAC Board of Control to the sports on that list. Instead, the Connecticut Association of Schools runs a flag football championship through the Connecticut Student Activities Conference, its board for non-athletic activities: the 2025-26 information packet calls the 2026 event the second CAS/CSAC Flag Football Tournament, open to CAS-CIAC member schools, with awards 'similar to CIAC awards', early rounds 14-17 May and finals 30-31 May 2026 at Windsor High School, under NFHS rules with two exceptions. We record Connecticut as association-organised play without CIAC adoption. The championship fields are left blank because the event is not a CIAC state championship. Earlier we listed Connecticut as sanctioned; see the corrections log.
