The OSAA Delegate Assembly voted girls flag football in as an OSAA-sanctioned activity at its meeting on 12 October 2026. The first sanctioned season is spring 2027; the OSAA says a plan book and 2027 dates will follow. Oregon took the emerging-activity route: the Delegate Assembly designated the sport an emerging activity on 7 October 2024, after it reached 25 schools, and an emerging activity becomes eligible for sanctioning after two years if 50 schools take part. OSAAtoday reported 58 schools in April 2026; the OSAA's October release counts 57 varsity teams in spring 2026, with more than 1,400 participants. Tualatin won the 2026 culminating event, which was not yet an OSAA state championship. The OSAA calls girls flag football the second sport added through its emerging-activity process, after boys volleyball (2025-26). The OSAA's release calls Oregon the 25th state to sanction; by this site's count it is the 23rd state, or the 24th entry including D.C. The OSAA's girls flag football information page lists 2027 season dates: first practice 1 March, first contest 15 March, cutoff 8 May and culminating event 15 May, with 14 play dates and 18 games.
