Girls Flag Football is written into the NJSIAA Constitution for 2026-27 as its own section, governed by National Federation Flag Football Rules unless modified. Members voted to sanction on 4 May 2026. The path ran from a two-year pilot approved unanimously by the Executive Committee in December 2023 (about 4,200 girls competing in 2024-25 across all five football leagues and conferences), through a one-year pilot extension, to legislation on the ballot at the May 2026 Annual Meeting. First practice 8 March 2027; competition 15 March to 13 June 2027; maximum 14 games; two enrollment groups and two sections, top 16 per section qualifying on power points.

Funding for girls' flag football in New Jersey

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles' league gives each team an NFL flag kit, a portable field, 25 Nike uniforms and a $3,000 stipend. It grew from 16 schools in 2022 to 92 teams in Philadelphia and South Jersey in 2024. No open application found. (Eagles, 7 Feb 2024)
New York Jets: More than $1.5 million since 2011, when the Jets started a league with New York City's PSAL; more than 225 schools in Jets-supported New York conferences.
