Checked on 2026-09-15 against AHSAA's association sport publication.

The AHSAA Central Board of Control approved sanctioning girls flag football at its January 2021 meeting, in partnership with the Atlanta Falcons and NFL FLAG, for play from fall 2021, with a title game at the 2021 Super 7 in Birmingham (AHSAA announcement, April 2021, published by the NFHS: https://nfhs.org/stories/ahsaa-to-offer-girls-flag-football-in-2021). An NFHS article later that year still described 2021 as Alabama's pilot year with no state championship, and reporting in 2023 says the Central Board then voted to make it a championship sport from the 2024-25 classification period, with two classes (1A-5A and 6A-7A). First championship year is left blank until the AHSAA record book settles whether the 2021-23 title games count. AHSAA publishes a dedicated Flag Football publication for 2026-27, including a Flag Football Coaches' Committee organised by district.
