The HHSAA Administrative Regulations (revised October 2025) list flag football among the sports in which the association conducts state championships, and name it among the sports Pac-Five teams may enter. A sport can become a state championship only if at least three leagues sponsor it; the athletic directors' assembly recommends a new sport and the Executive Board approves it. The 2026 state championships ran 11-16 May at Mililani and Pearl City high schools in two divisions of twelve teams, with all five leagues (BIIF, ILH, KIF, MIL, OIA) represented. HHSAA state adoptions set an 80 by 40 yard field and an overtime procedure; from 2027 the handbook requires three flags per player, white jerseys for visiting teams, and the NFHS flag football examination for officials. The HHSAA's February 2025 press release describes the inaugural HHSAA girls flag football season, starting the week of 24 February 2025 and ending in a state tournament on 26 April 2025 at Mililani High School (https://hhsaa.org/sports/flag-football/articles/2024-2025/2025-02-11-press-release). All five leagues approved the sport for 2024-25, per reporting. The HHSAA's 2026-27 state tournament schedule (as of 5 October 2026) lists girls flag football Division I on 3 and 6-8 May at Mililani High School and Division II on 5-8 May at Pearl City High School, both hosted by the OIA.
